How to reach MoMA from the American Museum of Natural History 

MoMA and AMNH lie 1.9 miles (19 minutes) away in Manhattan. 

You can either take public transportation or drive to the museum. 

Here is how you can get to MoMA from the American Museum of Natural History 

1. Subway

Take the subway for the most efficient route. 

You can walk from the American Museum of Natural History to the 81st Street – Museum of Natural History Subway Station.

Take the B (weekdays only) or C train downtown from 81st Street – Museum of Natural History Station to 59th Street – Columbus Circle. 

Then, transfer to the D or E train towards downtown and get off at the 7th Avenue Station (for E) or 53rd Street Station (for D). 

MoMA is a short walk from either station.

The subway trip typically takes about 20 to 25 minutes, depending on train wait times.

2. Bus

Taking the bus offers a more scenic route. 

You can catch the M7 or M11 bus southbound, which travels down Columbus Avenue/Avenue of the Americas.

Get off at 53rd Street and walk a block east to MoMA.

The bus journey can take 30 to 45 minutes, depending on traffic.

3. Taxi or Rideshare

A taxi or rideshare service like Uber or Lyft offers the most direct and convenient route, with no transfers required.

Depending on traffic, the drive can take between 10 to 20 minutes.

This option is more expensive than public transportation but could be worth it for those prioritizing time or traveling in a group.

4. Walking

If the weather is nice and you’re up for some exercise, walking from the American Museum of Natural History to MoMA is a great way to see more of the city.

The walk is about 2 miles and takes you across Central Park or down along Broadway through Columbus Circle, depending on your preferred route.

You can expect the walk to take approximately 40 minutes to an hour.
